We understand your skepticism regarding the claim that Indian hospitals offer high quality treatment at an affordable cost which is almost 1/16th of the treatment cost you may incur in countries like USA or UK. Several factors contribute in achieving incredibly low cost such as
Low operational cost of the hospitals
Decreased cost of living
Conducive exchange rates
Hospitals follow the practices of mass production and lean production that ensure reducing the waste, cutting the cost without compromising on quality or productivity. Concept of economies of scale is utilized in which cost advantage is attained by increasing the amount of production.
Most of the Indian hospitals are accredited by USA based JCI (Joint Commission International) or its Indian equivalent NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare providers) for quality standards they meet.
