Abnormal growth of cells in bone may result in the formation of bone tumors. Bone tumors may be benign (non cancerous) or malignant (cancerous).
Bone cancer is a malignant tumor in bone. Cancers that originate in bones are referred to as Primary bone tumors whereas the cancers that disseminate to the bones from some other organs such as breast, lungs or colon are termed as Secondary bone tumors or metastatic bone tumors.
Although bone Cancer may occur in any bone in the body, they are most common in the pelvic bones or long bones of the arm and legs. Bone cancer constitutes less than 1% of all cancer cases. it is extremely rare. In fact, non cancerous bone tumors are more common than the cancerous bone tumors.
